Food Pantry and Frozen Meals
The Senior Centers have food pantries stocked with donations of nonperishable, canned and shelf-stable foods donated by Chatham County citizens and support groups. The Council on Aging purchases supplies, including paper products and personal hygiene items, to supplement the food items.
The pantry items are offered to people who are in need, usually because of recent and unforeseen financial and health situations. The pantries are open during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m.
Frozen meals provide the same nutritious components that our meals at the Senior Centers and home delivered meals provide. Frozen meals for qualifying clients can be picked up at either Senior Center.
Often the meals assist Caregivers in providing nutrition while they are unavailable to care for their family members. Generally, one to two week supplies are available. Frozen meals can be transferred to appropriate cookware and prepared simply in microwave or traditional ovens.
